Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz, two leading names of the ATP tour have very different playing styles. And this difference has intrigued tennis enthusiasts for some time. Now, a budding ATP star has offered a great response based on his observations. While addressing the comparisons, he also highlighted his talent hinting that Sinner and Alcaraz might soon encounter another rival who could shake up the equation of their budding rivalry.
Nishesh Basavareddy, an emerging ATP star, offered his opinion on what separates Jannik Sinner from Carlos Alcaraz. In a recent episode of the Changeover Podcast, the budding player talked about many things including his admiration for Novak Djokovic, his aspirations for the future, and more. While he mainly delved into his playstyle and how he claimed success following the Serb’s style, his careful observations about Sinner and Alcaraz’s playstyle offered an impressive testament to his understanding of the sport.
“I think their two balls are a little different like Sinner’s was more flat and just straight through the court. Alcaraz’s was really heavy obviously on an indoor hard court it’s a little different that was lower bouncing but yeah I just think both their balls just go through the court in different ways,” said Basavareddy. His explanation offered a simple understanding of why Sinner does a better job on the hard courts while Alcaraz’s forte shows beautifully on grass/ clay courts. After such a thoughtful response, Basavareddy was asked if he could shed his opinion about their pace in terms of forehand and backhand, the talented ATP star said, “Alcaraz, there’s more of a difference, Sinner’s, both sides were like really really hard. Alcaraz’s backhand was a little bit slower for sure and his forehand was much harder but I think it’s different and the other big thing from watching those guys there was just their defense was crazy.“ Basavareddy pointed out how Sinner and Alcaraz’s strokes are different based on how forcefully they tackle the ball. This is a careful observation from the growing athlete who aspires to reach the ranks of the Italian and the Spaniard in the future.

Speaking about it, this budding ATP star showcased how he resembles Djokovic’s spirit which is helping him in building the career he always dreamt of.
During his discussion on the Changeover podcast, the hosts reminded the ATP star about how his strokes reminded people of Djokovic’s old days. Reflecting on that note happily, Basavareddy explained that he has been following the Serb minutely, since growing up. “Yeah, when I was younger I used to try to like copy his serve and stuff which maybe when I was younger his serve wasn’t as good to that probably wasn’t the best thing but yeah that’s he’s been my favorite player since I was growing up so and also when I was younger I didn’t think I was going to be the biggest guy I ended up growing a little more than I thought I would be,” he said. His words echoed his ambition and also how carefully he’s observed the Serb’s play style.
