Hey Spartans, time to hear from you all again. I know as sports fans, particularly college sports fans, the summer months can seem dull and never-ending. However, this summer has been rather eventful for the world of athletics. There are a number of events, leagues, and tournaments all going on right now that are helping me when it is too hot to go outside. Soccer/futbol has graced us with two concurrent tournaments, Euro ‘24 and Copa America. Both of those events will have their respective semifinals this coming Tuesday and Wednesday, and their finals will be next Sunday. In American football, we had the first season of the UFL recently come to an end. The merger of two lower-level leagues into one seems to have drawn some attention to the combined product, or at least it did here in Detroit where one of the teams played their home games.
Back across the pond, Wimbledon and the Tour de France are both going on right now. Oh, and the Summer Olympics begin in less than three weeks. I am probably leaving something out. Lots going on!
So what we want to know is are you paying attention to any of it? If so, who are you cheering for? Or are you waiting for the school year to start and football to return? Let your TOC amigos know what you are doing with your summer, even if it has nothing to do with sports.
Speaking of summer plans, I guess this would be a good time to mention that I am going to be going out of town this coming week and I will be gone until the end of the month. That means that unless there is big breaking news pertaining to MSU, this will be the last TOC article for a few weeks. I am going to be overseas and my laptop is not coming with me. Hopefully I do not have to write any articles on my phone. Enjoy the rest of July.
