The young American sensation Coco Gauff, who has been struggling for consistency lately, eventually parted ways with her coach Brad Gilbert earlier today. Even though Gauff made it to the semi-finals of the Australian Open and the French Open, the season was considered a mixed bag for the 20-year-old because of the standards she set for herself by winning the US Open last year. Gauff’s separation from Gilbert was on the cards after the latter’s early exit from the US Open, but fans now wonder what would be Brad Gilbert’s next coaching move.
Gilbert, a former pro, decided to join Coco Gauff’s camp in July 2023 as a consultant. The player later decided to hire Gilbert as her full-time coach in November. But things did not go as planned. Their split, after just 14 months together, comes on the heels of an apparently mediocre 2024 season for Gauff.
The tension between Gauff and Gilbert was visible during the Wimbledon championship itself. During her match against Emma Navarro in the fourth round, Gauff was visibly frustrated as she looked toward his box for suggestions. “Tell me something, you guys aren’t saying anything,” Gauff shouted. Gilbert even suggested a plan B for the World No. 3, but to no avail, as she ended up losing the match in straight sets.

The partnership has eventually broken now, but after parting ways with Gauff, Gilbert is in no mood to take a break from the sport. According to unconfirmed reports on X, BG is in the process of joining forces with the young American star Alycia Parks. Revealing the developments, the X user Christian’s Court wrote, “Following his split with Coco Gauff, Brad Gilbert is reportedly in talks of potentially working with Alycia Parks per @Just2Tennis.”

It’s not a surprise that Gilbert’s name is being floated for a possible coaching role with Parks. Neither of the two parties has confirmed the reports yet. So it remains a rumor at this stage, but the 63-year-old has always praised Parks and has rated her game highly. No eyebrows will be raised if Gilbert ends up joining the coaching staff of Parks.
Gilbert had applauded Parks for her remarkable rise through the ranks in 2023 which helped her break into the Top 50 of the WTA rankings. “Love to see somebody that wasn’t on people’s radar a few years ago doing what she (Alycia Parks) is doing,” said Gilbert, in an episode of the Craig Shapiro Tennis Podcast.

However, Gilbert also mentioned that success comes with its fair share of challenges and it was up to the young tennis star if she could tackle the challenges or not. “Now she’s (No.) 50 in the world, now she’s on people’s radar, now can she make that next leap? That’s the beauty of tennis, the beauty of sports. She wasn’t on the radar, now people know what she’s doing. Can she get better from here?” Gilbert added.
Alycia Parks hasn’t had a great time on the tour of late. After making a decent start to the season by making it to the third round of the Australian Open, she has struggled for consistency. The 23-year-old couldn’t even qualify for the main draw of the recently finished US Open. However, fans will expect a change in Parks’ fortune, if Gilbert indeed joins her coaching ranks.
