Tennis star Tommy Paul may have caught the eye after winning the title at Queen’s Club at the weeken. But it’s his girlfriend who appears to have stolen all the headlines on social media.
The 27-year-old American beat Italian Lorenzo Musetti 6-1, 7-6 in just over 80 minutes to seal his third title. In doing so, he became the first American since Sam Querrey in 2010 to win at the tournament. However, upon receiving the famous trophy it was Paul’s girlfriend, influencer Paige Lorenze, who insisted on taking the limelight.
Lorenze, a 26-year-old and Instagram and YouTube star, caused a minor storm on social media after she joined Paul on court with the trophy and began posing while the Queen’s Club champion stood awkwardly as she appeared to muscle in on his big moment.
Several posters on the platform seemed to struggle with second-hand embarrassment when watching the clip. “I’m sorry but this is hard to watch” one user said. As another chimed in with: “That’s a train wreck, he needs out.”
The brazen awkwardness of the moment did not go unnoticed amongst X users either. “So awkward. Like why is she pulling his neck so much? How did she even reach there? I’ve never seen a player’s companion with them on the court after a win,” one said. “That is wayyyyyyyy out of control,” another agreed.
Lorenze has 630,000 followers on Instagram and treated them all to more photos from Paul’s triumph afterwards, including one of her standing on the court looking down on the hallowed trophy. Paul’s big win at Queen’s means he has now joined the likes of Pete Sampras, Jimmy Connors and Andy Roddick as Americans who have tasted glory at the famous competition.
The American player, who beat Brit star Jack Draper on the way to the Queen’s final, became the new US number one following the victory and will now head into Wimbledon as his country’s great hope. His win could also bode well for his chances at the tournament with the victor of two of the last three years at Queen’s going on to make the final of SW19.
Matteo Berrettini made the final in 2021 and lost, however Carlos Alcaraz won in 2021 and 2023 and lifted the Grand Slam trophy last year.
