The North Carolina Tar Heels men’s basketball team plays the American Eagles on Friday (8 p.m., ACC Network) at the Dean E. Smith Center in Chapel Hill.

The 10th-ranked Tar Heels (1-1) return to Roy Williams Court a week after losing at No. 1 Kansas (3-0). Jackie Manuel, a captain and defensive star who helped UNC win a national championship in 2005, is an assistant coach for the Eagles (1-2).

UNC and American are playing for the first time. The Tar Heels have four players averaging double-digit points, led by RJ Davis (20 points per game), the reigning ACC Player of the Year. Matt Rogers (13 ppg) is the top scorer for the Eagles, who play at one of the slowest tempos in the nation.
