After winning the CFDA award win for American Menswear Designer of the Year, Willy Chavarria stopped downtown to get his flowers. The designer was hosting an after party in collaboration with Byredo at East Village club-staurant Jean’s in celebration of American fashion, and the room was in a particularly celebratory mood.
Chavarria walked in the doors shortly before midnight Monday to a roomful of applause and cheering. “We did it, we did it,” the designer exclaimed, blowing the crowd a kiss. The designer, with husband David Ramirez by his side, fielded congratulations from friends as he posed in front of the red floral backdrop. Christian Siriano introduced Darren Criss to the designer, who immediately complimented the actor’s look — he was still in the cropped tuxedo jacket from the awards, although he had ditched the voluminous purple tulle skirt for the late-night celebration.
Many celebs had also changed from their red carpet looks, including several of Chavarria’s guests — Danny Ramirez, Omar Apollo and Precious Lee among them — who opted to swap their velvet suits from the awards dinner for more casual Willy Chavarria after party looks. (Juana Burga committed to her original cobalt look.)
Chavarria headed downstairs to a VIP table behind the DJ booth as the Byredo-scented room continued to fill up well into the early-morning hours. Susanne Bartsch was dancing underneath the disco ball as artist Mickalene Thomas made her way back to the main floor, a small red bouquet in hand. The welcome platters of Champagne greeting guests into the space had been swapped for fries and chicken tenders. Late night arrivals included Apollo around 1 a.m., who was soon followed by Alton Mason, Laufey, Richie Shazam and designer Kim Shui.
Other guests throughout the night included accessory designer of the year winner Raul Lopez, along with CFDA nominees Connor McKnight and designer duo Fletcher Kasell and Tanner Richie, with Brandon Flynn, as well as Mahmood, Alix Earle, Sevdaliza, LaQuan Smith, Prabal Gurung, Nicole Miller and more.
