CARY, N.C.—University of Hawai’i women’s tennis players Ana Vilcek and Nikola Homolkova fell in the Pre-Qualifying Singles and Doubles rounds on the opening day of the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) All-American Championships at the Cary Tennis Park in Cary, N.C. on Saturday.
In singles, Vilcek pushed Columbia’s Malak El Allami in the Pre-Qualifying Round of 128. El Allami edged out Vilcek by a break in both sets, 6-4, 7-5.
Vilcek and Homolkova were also paired together for the PQ Doubles opening round. But the Rainbow Wahine duo fell to No. 19 Oklahoma’s Salakthip Ounmang and Emma Staker in straight sets, 6-1, 6-3.
Homolkova begins her singles play on Sunday in the Qualifying Round (opponent to be announced).
On Sunday, Vilcek will continue action in the PQ Consolation Round against Utah’s Kaila Barksdale at 10:30 a.m.. Vilcek and Homolkova will also take on Baylor’s Kennedy Gibbs and Na Dong at 1:00 p.m. in the doubles consolation round. All matches will be played at the Cary Tennis Park.
