Zhang, who was the lone Demon Deacon representative in the tournament, picked up a straight-set win in her debut match in the opening round of pre-qualifying on Saturday morning, defeating Kenna Erickson of LSU to move onto the second round (6-1, 6-3).
In her second round matchup on Sunday morning, Zhang took the first set from UCLA’s Kate Fakih, but fell in three sets (6-2, 4-6, 1-6) to conclude her first tournament as a Demon Deacon.
The Deacs will return to fall competition in three weeks, traveling to Chapel Hill to compete in the ITA Carolina Regional. The tournament is currently scheduled from Thursday, Oct. 17 through Monday, Oct. 21.
