Every game is big in the NFL, but some just get hyped more than others.
From traveling overseas for their first regular-season game in Germany to facing a rival on Thanksgiving, the Giants’ 2024 schedule has it all. Here are five intriguing games to circle this season:
The New York Giants will begin their landmark 100th season at home against the Minnesota Vikings, their same-place finisher from the NFC North. It will be the culmination of a major offseason, which is being documented by “Hard Knocks” on Max. The marquee moves were trading for two-time Pro Bowl edge rusher Brian Burns and drafting All-American wide receiver Malik Nabers with the sixth overall pick.
“The entire Mara family is proud to commemorate the 100th season of New York Giants football,” said John Mara, President and CEO of the Giants. “As we reflect on this landmark season, I think about my family, and most specifically my father, grandfather and uncle who dedicated their entire lives to the Giants and the NFL. We would not be who we are without their vision and leadership. When we became partners with the Tisch family in 1991, our franchise grew even stronger. Together, the Mara and Tisch families are proud to celebrate the history of our franchise as we look to the future of Giants football.”
“I first saw the Giants play in person in the early 1960s when my father would take me to games at Yankee Stadium,” said Steve Tisch, Giants Executive Vice President and Chairman. “Going to Giants games was a wonderfully magical ritual. It inspired my lifelong love of the Giants. When my father became an equal partner of the Giants in 1991, it was the realization of a longtime dream. Our family has relished our association with the Giants and look forward to many years of success in the future.”
The Giants are set to face quarterback Joe Burrow for the first time, but it will also be a primetime matchup between another two LSU stars. Nabers, the highest drafted receiver in Giants history, capped his LSU career as the school’s all-time leader in receptions and receiving yards. Meanwhile, Ja’Marr Chase has made the Pro Bowl in each of his first three seasons since the Bengals drafted him fifth overall in 2021. Chase won the Biletnikoff Award in his final collegiate season, just as the Giants’ Jalin Hyatt did in 2022.
The Giants (746) and Steelers (707) have combined for 1,453 total victories and 13 NFL championships throughout their history. The two cornerstone franchises first met on Sept. 20, 1933, when the Steelers were known as the Pittsburgh Pirates. That year, the Giants went on to appear in the inaugural NFL Championship Game.
Fast-forwarding to 2024, the Giants will face the entire AFC North, which sent three teams to the postseason in 2023. The only team that didn’t make it were the Bengals, who finished 9-8 with Burrow missing seven games due to injury. Mike Tomlin has never had a losing season in 17 campaigns as head coach of the Steelers.
The 2024 International Series will include five NFL games overseas, the fifth being a matchup between the Giants and Panthers at Allianz Arena in Munich, Germany. It will be the Giants’ second visit to Europe in three seasons. In 2022, they defeated the Green Bay Packers to improve their record to 3-0 in regular-season games in Europe, all in London.
This will be the Giants’ second game in Germany, but their first in the regular season. On Aug. 13, 1994, they defeated the San Diego Chargers in a preseason game in Berlin, 28-20.
