This week, Navarro handed out a big upset at the WTA 1000 event in Indian Wells, defeating world No 2 Aryna Sabalenka in the round of 16 at the BNP Paribas Open, 6-3, 3-6, 6-2.
Navarro has made it through to the quarter-finals of Indian Wells in 2024 for the first time in her career. En route to the last eight, she beat: Lesia Tsurenko, Elina Svitolina and – for the biggest win of her career – Aryna Sabalenka.
Emma Navarro won the first title of her career at the Hobart International in January 2024, beating the experienced Elise Mertens in the final to clinch the WTA 250 tournament.
Navarro had a strong junior career which led many to mark her out as a player to watch closely in the future. She won the NCAA Championships singles title on in May 2021, representing the University of Virginia. Navarro also finished runner-up in the 2019 Junior French Open singles.
Navarro plays both doubles and singles, although having broken through at WTA level, she now prioritises singles in most tournaments.
She played a lot of doubles during her junior career to help hone her net skills, winning the 2019 Junior French Open doubles title alongside Chloe Beck, the same year they finished runner-up at the Junior Australian Open.

Navarro’s highest ranking is No 20 in the world, which she achieved on March 18, 2024 after beating Sabalenka in Indian Wells.
