New York, New
York, it’s a hell of a town.
Even American
Airlines wants to have a presence there.
To make further
inroads in the market, American has added
four new routes from LaGuardia Airport in New York.
All four are to
warm-weather destinations in the winter.
American will fly
twice daily to Orlando and West Palm Beach, Florida, and once a day to
Sarasota, Florida and to New Orleans out of LaGuardia. The flights will begin
in early November.
American hasn’t
flown to Orlando from LaGuardia in three years and has not had a flight to New
Orleans out of the New York City airport in 16 years. Those particular
destinations are already served by Delta, JetBlue, Southwest and Spirit out of
LGA. However, JetBlue recently announced it would no longer service Orlando and
New Orleans out of LaGuardia.
By attrition, it
is likely that American will grow in New York.
It has been
speculated that American could have lost its slots at LaGuardia if it did not
add the flights. The carrier is flying solo out of LGA due to the disillusion
of the Northeast Alliance with JetBlue, although American has
been trying to keep some aspects of the alliance together.
