All American Airlines flights have been cleared for takeoff following a “technical issue” that temporarily grounded flights nationwide on Christmas Eve morning.
The Federal Aviation Administration canceled the groundstop advisory for the airline at around 8:30 a.m. Dec. 24.
The majority of the airline’s arriving and departing flights were listed as “on time” for the Charleston International Airport during the two hours of reported nationwide delays.
Reporters with The Post and Courier could not reach airport administration for comment by the time of publication.
At around 6:30 a.m. Dec. 24, American Airlines alerted the public of system-wide outage via X, formerly known as Twitter. The company requested the grounding of all flights at all airports, according to an FAA advisory.
The airline’s social media account responded to a distressed traveler’s post about their grounded flight, stating that there is no current estimated timeframe for the fix.
According to a security guard at Charleston International Airport, reached through an automated operator, this nationwide disruption has not caused any issues in Charleston. According to the security guard, airport traffic and operations are currently typical. The woman declined to give her name, stating that she was simply on call for security operations.
