American Airlines has added more than 300 new positions at its Tulsa-based maintenance facility after having received a $22 million grant from the Oklahoma Department of Commerce, the company announced this week.
A total of 321 new aviation maintenance jobs, 227 of which are for licensed aviation maintenance technician (AMT) positions, became available at the 3.3-million-square-foot engine repair and overhaul facility in Tulsa through the airline’s career website Monday.
“As a direct result of these new investments, the airline is hiring more than 300 new team members at Tech Ops – Tulsa to boost existing engine repair and overhaul work,” American stated in an email. “Positions include licensed airframe and powerplant mechanics, engineers, machinists, welders, maintenance planners and more, with total annual compensation packages of nearly $120,000.”

Another 133 positions opened at the airline’s Charlotte, North Carolina, facility and another 44 opened at the company’s facility in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. More than 385 AMTs will be hired nationwide. A total of 500 new jobs at American posted online nationwide.
The Oklahoma Department of Commerce awarded a $22 million grant to American in December 2023. Funds will be received over the next three years and will fund improvements to the Tulsa-based engine repair and overhaul facility, leading to over $400 million in enhancements.
American also invested in $31.60 million in capital and $350 million in an ongoing improvement project, the company announced in a news release in 2023.
“American is excited to grow our talented Technical Operations workforce with more high-paying, skilled aviation maintenance positions,” said Greg Emerson, American’s vice president of base maintenance and facilities. “It’s an opportunity to grow our maintenance capacity and capabilities in the near-term and preserve them over the long run by continuing to build our pipeline of future maintenance team members — which is important work American has been doing for some time.”
