There’s been debate among football fans on who is the real G.O.A.T. between Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo. Well, we will not talk about that fan battle. Here, fans think that Messi is even bigger than the whole NFL. That’s up to the fans, but what really made them think so? A post and fans are already jumping into that debate. Let’s find out what’s actually happened.
Lionel Messi arrived on February 9 in New Orleans to see what Patrick Mahomes Kansas City Chiefs and Jalen Hurts’ Philadelphia Eagles were supposed to bring to the crowd. The final score of the match is not enough to say how Eagles outplayed Chiefs. Anyway, Eagles defeated Chiefs by 40-22 and won the Super Bowl LIX.
Two of Messi’s sons entered the SuperDome wearing black Patrick Mahomes jerseys, while Messi himself arrived wearing an adidas-branded sweater. Thiago, Messi’s eldest son, was sporting an Eagles jersey featuring quarterback Jalen Hurts’ number one. Along with their families, Messi was joined at the game by Inter Miami teammates Luis Suarez, Sergio Busquets, and Jordi Alba. Despite a rapid turnaround, the teammates managed to make it to the big game.
And, NFL official social media handle on X, formerly Twitter posted about Messi’s arrival and quickly it went viral and as of writing this, the post has got 14 million views and 79k likes. Whereas, the post about Eagles winning the Super Bowl has as of now, 3.5 million views.
And, this is the reason, fans have shared their views that, Messi is the real influencer here and he has got more fame than that of Super Bowl or American Football in general. Messi, the current MLS MVP, is regarded as one of the best soccer players of all time. And, no doubt, he’s the most famous athlete living in the United States who has more than 500 million followers on Instagram.
As soon as the NFL posted about Lionel Messi, fans came to the comment section to claim that Messi is bigger than the NFL or Super Bowl. Check out some fan reactions-
Meanwhile, if we just see the popularity in terms of viewership, Super Bowl falls flat in front of the Men’s World Cup Football. Super Bowl LIX saw its biggest audience ever for the second year in a row: an average of 126 million viewers watched the Philadelphia Eagles vs the Kansas City Chiefs on Feb. 9. On the other hand, according to FIFA, the 2022 World Cup Final between Argentina and France reached an average live audience of 571 million viewers across the globe.
