With the Paris Olympics coming to an end, people are already focused on the season’s last Grand Slam, the US Open. From Coco Gauff’s ability to defend her title to Naomi Osaka‘s ballet lessons for better bodily movement, players are prepping in full swing. While everyone is eyeing their favorite star, a former American tennis player relies on Danielle Collins to take her first grand slam in Flushing Meadows!
Tennis Channel’s shared a video where people spotted American former tennis player Sam Querrey dropping his opinion about whom he wanted to win the upcoming US Open. “We’ll see. What if she wins the open then what is she done? It might be a good way to go out. Right? We’ll see. She’s playing amazing this year. She won Miami. So she proved to herself that she can win these big events. So why not win? Why not, you know, win,” Querrey said when asked about his opinion on Collins’ ability to win the American Grand Slam.

While Querrey seemed quite positive about Collins’ performance, he also talked about 20-year-old Coco Gauff’s brilliance. “But, I loved how Coco Gauff played today and her outfit was cool. I like the shoes and the sneakers. It was, if she had a good vibe going, and I kind of liked that. I feel like that’s the girl. I’m kind of watching this summer, and I like her chances to do the best out of that group,“ he said. American fans will hope Querrey’s words come true as these same women, barring Madison Keys, went to the Olympics and returned empty-handed.

Querrey’s wished Collins would win a Grand Slam before she retires. Given that Collins declared retirement after this season, the US Open is her only chance to fulfill her Grand Slam dream. Despite leveraging Collins for the upcoming US Open, Querrey also praised Gauff’s doubles skills.
Querrey will keep an eye on Collins’ performance for the US Open, but he has similar confidence in Gauff. Referring to the American star’s doubles skills, Querrey mentioned, “In my opinion Coco’s been the best doubles player the last three years, I think Coco has a little bit of that kind of aura around her on the doubles court, I think a lot of the girls if you asked they would say Coco is the best doubles player she’s got incredible results with everyone she plays with.”

Querrey also believed that Gauff’s doubles success might help in her singles as well, “I think if you win a Grand Slam in doubles it’s just going to help your confidence on the singles court, Hopefully this can kind of boost her even more when she plays an Iga [Swiatek] or Sabalenka in those matches. Hopefully she can gain a little confidence from these doubles wins.”
Sam Querrey’s revelations showcase the tough competition among women for the upcoming US Open. Regardless of the winner, Querrey’s revelations tell how Collins has won the American former tennis player’s heart with her strong will and determination.
