If you like to kick off your travel with a little retail therapy, Detroit Metropolitan Airport is among the top airports in the country — and the globe — to do it, according to a study from CouponBirds.
In a ranking from the website, DTW was identified as the second-best U.S. airport for shopping, only behind Tampa International Airport, with an average shopping score of 3.78 stars out of 5.
CouponBirds used 33,000 SKYTRAX reviews spanning 886 international airports to find the travel destination airports with the best shopping experience.
Detroit Metro Airport also ranked high globally, in the sixth spot overall. According to the airport’s website, shopping options include Desigual, Brookstone, Brighton Collectibles, Creative Kidstuff, Michigan Treasures, Pandora, PGA Tour Shop and Estee Lauder Beauty Boutique.
Singapore Changi, in the Southeast Asian city-state of Singapore, took the top spot, with an average rating of 4.44 stars. Changi sees around 5.73 million monthly passenger movements, almost equivalent to the entire 6.03 million population of the country, according to its website.
If you’re hoping to do some shopping, don’t plan to do it in Kansas City. The Missouri airport’s 1.35-star rating was the lowest among the American airports in the rankings.
