“Every citizen, I will fight for you, for your family and for your future. Every single day, I will be fighting for you with every breath in my body. I will not rest until we have delivered the strong, safe and prosperous America that our children deserve and that you deserve. This will truly be the golden age of America,” the 78-year-old leader said.
It is a neck and neck battle between Republican nominee Donald Trump and Democratic candidate Kamala Harris, who have 277 and 224 seats respectively. Trump has breached the majority mark of 270. This is going to be only the second time after Grover Cleveland in 1884 and 1892, when a president will be serving two non-consecutive terms in the White House.
Trump, in his address, invoked God and how he survived assassination attempt against him in Pennsylvania this July when a bullet grazed his ear. “God spared my life for a reason” said USA President-elect Trump, adding that it was because God wanted to “save the country and restore America to greatness.”
He pledged to help the United States ‘heal’. “We are going to help our country heal, we are going to help our country heal. We have a country that needs help and it needs help very badly,” Trump said in Florida.Trump, in his address, also acknowledged that his camp has won the popular vote and said winning this was “very nice”.”We are gonna make you very happy and proud. America has given us an unprecedented and powerful mandate. We have taken back control of the Senate,” the Republican said.
“The number of victories in the Senate was absolutely incredible. Nobody expected that, nobody. We have some great new Senators. It also looks like we will be keeping control of the House of Representatives,” Trump added.
He also vowed to seal up the borders, paying down debt and reducing taxes.
Donald Trump also said he would be prepared to concede defeat after Tuesday’s vote “if it’s a fair election”, while again raising concerns about the use of electronic voting machines.
“If I lose an election, if it’s a fair election, I would be the first one to acknowledge it. So far I think it’s been fair,” Trump, repeating a caveat that he has used many times on the campaign trail, told reporters after voting in Florida.
President-elect Donald Trump also heaped praises for tech mogul Elon Musk, one of his open supporters.
“We have a new star… a star is born – Elon!” said Trump.
He humorously added, “He sent a rocket up, I saw it coming down,” pointing out Tesla CEO Musk’s ambitious ventures like SpaceX, which have captured attention of the masses.
“He (Elon) is a genius. We have to protect our geniuses, we don’t have many of them,” said Trump.
Earlier, Musk posted a picture of himself with the Republican. “Game, set and match,” the Tesla boss said on X, social media network he owns.
