Take a walk into a bar in New York, Cleveland, Miami or Seattle and you will find screens everywhere, showing every kind of sport possible, as well as staff providing cold drinks, hot food and friendly service.
The concept of the American sports bar is one which has slowly started to take hold in the UK, with a number of places working to provide that authentic US experience.
One bar which has taken on the challenge of providing the tastes, sounds, plays and experiences of the USA is the Met Sports Bar on Wolverhampton Street in Walsall, which is owners Davenports first foray into sports bars.
The brewery and pub chain has modelled the bar at The Wharf on similar venues in New York and Nashville and, after opening in June 2023 following a £500,000 renovation, have proved to be a popular addition to the Walsall pub scene.
Davenports brand manager Harry Higgs was the leader of the team which worked to launch the bar and was operations manager for a short time and spoke about the idea came about and how it developed.
He said: “It was our first go at dipping our toes into the water when it comes to sport and so we went all in on it and we decided to go with an American theme and made the decision to use a bar we’d had for a while called Bar 10.
