NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) – In this edition of FFF: NFL is trying to become a global game, Paris FC finding success with fashion conscious owners, and Gio’s Pizza getting their due.
FOOTBALL
The biggest sport on earth is soccer. The World Cup is the most-watched sporting event ever.
The NFL knows this, but they’re trying to put a dent in the soccer love.
This fall, seven games will be played internationally, the most ever. Games in Spain, Brazil, Ireland, and three in England.
In 2026, they’ll stage a game in Australia. So the NFL is only expanding more and more.
And these are all regular season games, counting in the standings.
When the English Premier League sends teams to summer American tours, it’s all preseason games, with starters playing limited minutes.
So yes the NFL isn’t the biggest sport on Earth, but at least they have a gameplan to put a dent in soccer’s popularity.
FÚTBOL
Fashion and soccer collided when the Arnault family bought soccer club Paris FC.
Bernard Arnault is the majority shareholder and head of LVMH. Aranualt’s net worth is $186 billion.
LVMH stands for Louis Vuitton-Moët-Hennessy. LVMH owns brands Louis Vuitton, Fendi, Guerlain, Givenchy, Parfums Christian Dior, Bulgari, TAG Heuer, Chaumet, Moët & Chandon, and Dom Pérignon.
If it’s luxury, LVMH is connected.
Paris FC is a second-tier club in France. They also brought in energy drink giant Red Bull on as a minority stakeholder. With that heavyweight financial support, Paris FC is currently second in French Ligue 2.
Three teams from Ligue 2 get promoted to Ligue 1. If Paris FC does go up, their stadium is next door to another club with heavy financial backing, Paris Saint-Germain.
Paris Saint-Germain is owned by Qatar Sports Investments. The Qatar Investment Authority’s asset valuation is around $450 billion.
FOOD
I went to Gio’s Pizza for the first time four years ago. I was immediately hooked.
Owners Mia and Travis Posey make everything homemade from the meatballs to the pizza. I think it’s one of the best slices in New Orleans.
I bring newbies to Gio’s all the time, and they’re quite surprised how darn good the pie is.
Well, Barstool founder Dave Portnoy put Gio’s on another level after his review of the Metairie pizza joint.
Now, they sellout of food at 1 p.m. some days. The Posey’s stay later each day to make sure they can serve more people the next day.
Great things happen to great people, and that’s the case at Gio’s.
