Never hesitant to add a proven veteran to the mix, the Baltimore Ravens are complementing their defense with a former All-Pro.
Safety Eddie Jackson has agreed to terms on a one-year deal with Baltimore, NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport reported on Friday.
Jackson, a two-time Pro Bowler in seven seasons with the Chicago Bears, will reunite with linebacker Roquan Smith and provide depth to a safety room that already boasts veteran Marcus Williams and ascending standout Kyle Hamilton.
The 30-year-old Jackson was a fourth-round draft pick of the Bears in 2017 and became one of the top safeties in the game for a time. In 2018, the Alabama product was an All-Pro and was a Pro Bowler that season and the next.
Slowed by foot injuries over the past two campaigns, Jackson missed 10 total games in 2022-23, though he still produced 80 tackles and four interceptions in the ’22 season.
Taking a flier on a proven defensive veteran with a later offseason signing is a vintage Ravens move. They’ve found success in similar situations with the likes of Calais Campbell, Jason Pierre-Paul, Jadeveon Clowney, Kyle Van Noy and Rock Ya-Sin in recent seasons.
Released in February after a successful tenure in Chi-Town, Jackson is now bound for a new team and conference.
It’ll be a massive change for Jackson, who leaves behind a rebuilding Bears franchise after playing in just one career postseason game. Now, he’ll be looking to aid a team with its sights set firmly on a trip to the Super Bowl.
