The Iowa Central football program placed four student-athletes on the NJCAA All-American teams, the league announced recently.
Triton standout Jawarren Corbin was on the first squad at linebacker, while Joseph Kallies made the second team at offensive line.
Cyncir Bowers and Howard Brown were both honorable mention selections.
“It’s a tremendous honor for our guys. I’m so proud of them,” ICCC head coach Jesse Montalto said. “We battled through a lot this year, but these guys never stopped working to get better. I think you saw what we were capable of as a team late in the season.”
The ICCAC had five players total named to the first team, two on the second and five honorable mention. Adding in the Kansas schools — regulars on the Tritons’ schedule now — there were a total of 28 All-Americans from the two leagues.
“Combining the KJCCC and our conference, we play the toughest schedule in the country,” Montalto said. “It’s a grind each and every week that you have to get prepared for.”
Hutchinson topped Iowa Western in the national championship game. Hutchinson had five players selected.
Iowa Western had eight, including former Iowa State quarterback Hunter Dekkers.
Iowa Central finished this past season 6-6 overall, winning the Game One Bowl over North Dakota State College of Science, 49-6. The victory was the program’s 14th in a row in the postseason dating back to 2004.
Montalto is 11-0 in bowl contests as a head coach.
Corbin, the conference’s defensive player of the year, recorded 69 tackles with 3.5 sacks, three interceptions and a forced fumble.
Kallies was part of the offensive line that helped clear holes for Bowers, who ran for over 1,000 yards and ranked fifth in the nation in yards and sixth in touchdowns. Bowers has a number of Div. I offers, including one from Florida State.
Iowa Central averaged 32.6 points and 380 yards of offense per game.
Brown racked up 53 tackles with 9.5 for loss and 4.5 sacks while recovering a fumble to help anchor the Triton defense.
