Georgia’s American football team will be competing for the first time at the Flag Football World Championship, scheduled to be held in Finland next week, among 32 men’s national teams from six continents, the Sports Ministry said on Thursday.
The Georgian squad earned the spot at the Championship after placing 16th at the European Championship the previous year.
The team will play against the United Kingdom and current European champion Germany on August 27 and face Sweden on August 28 in their Group C fixtures.
Organised by the International Federation of American Football, the squad will participate in the tournament with the support of the Ministry and Tbilisi City Hall.
The Ministry added the team would also participate in the selection cycle for the 2028 Summer Olympics, with the event scheduled to take place from July 14-30 in Los Angeles.
