Twice PGA title holder and professional golfer Grayson Murray died at the age of 30. The news of the American golfer’s sudden demise left the sporting community shocked as his cause of death was not known. Murray was reportedly suffering from an undisclosed “illness,” as he withdrew from the 2024 Charles Schwab Challenge, a day before his passing away. Despite leading a successful career he went through low phases, especially during the times of emergence as the winner of the PGA Tour in January this year. The player himself had acknowledged in his past interviews about suffering from Alcoholism and Depression.

Multiple sports websites suggested that Murray took a major leap in his career by winning the Sony Open in Hawaii after seven long years. Prior to this victory, he battled alcohol addiction, and depression for years. The golf watchers described the moment as “another chance,” in his over a decade-long career.

“We were devastated to learn — and are heartbroken to share — that PGA Tour player Grayson Murray passed away this morning. I am at a loss for words,” PGA Tour commissioner Jay Monahan informed through an official statement after the player’s death.

A report by Golfmonthly claimed that Murray had indeed had to admit himself to rehab to recover from alcoholism. He also had mental health issues such as anxiety and depression, the report added. Golf fans hailed Murray for coming out of difficult times, for his ‘incredible’ journey of returning to spiritualism, and quitting drinking.

“I would drink during tournament weeks. It was my outlet. I thought I was invincible coming out here as a 22 year old, winning as a rookie, played three days hungover when I won,” the outlet quoted Murray as saying after winning the Sony Open in 2024.

After seven years, the 30-year-old took home his another PGA Tour victory. He made his Masters debut with this victory. Additionally, he secured berths in every marquee event for 2024, including the Players Championship.
