Claims that Colorado Congresswoman Lauren Boebert was nominated as Secretary of Education by President-elect Donald Trump went viral after an X user named Chris Jackson posted a fabricated “statement” supposedly from Trump. The statement praised Boebert’s background and promised drastic reforms.
“I am thrilled to announce that the incredible Lauren Boebert will be taking the reins of the Former Department of Education. Lauren, a true American Patriot, has an unparalleled understanding of what real education should look like—not from some ivory tower, but from the heart of this great nation. She worked her way up, got her GED, and learned more about real life and the needs of American families than any bureaucrat ever could. Her journey is exactly what we need to bring REAL reform to our broken education system!” it said.
“With Lauren as Secretary, we’re going to take a sledgehammer to the waste, fraud, and abuse that have plagued this bloated, overreaching department for far too long. No more indoctrination. No more wasteful spending. No more Washington elites telling parents how to raise their kids! Together, we’re going to make education in America GREAT again. And I have zero doubt—Lauren Boebert will get the job done!”
The claim is entirely fabricated, as indicated by the final line of the post: “If you read this far, I’m sure you are like me and couldn’t tell if this was real at first or not.”
Despite this, many social media users believed the claim and shared their thoughts.
“President Trump should appoint Lauren Boebert as Secretary of Education. The left would lose their collective mind!” one person commented.
Another wrote, “And Lauren Boebert is the secretary of education…good God.”
A third person commented, “Lauren Boebert is the secretary of education????? Absolute circus America is.”
Trump has long criticized the Department of Education, suggesting it should be dismantled and its responsibilities shifted to the states.
“One thing I’ll be doing very early in the administration is closing up the Department of Education in Washington, DC, and sending all education and education work it needs back to the states,” Trump said in 2023. “We want them to run the education of our children because they’ll do a much better job of it. You can’t do worse.”
