Veteran American TV entertainment reporter Sam Rubin’s death was due to coronary artery disease, it has been confirmed.

The Los Angeles County medical examiner found the 64-year-old suffered from “ischemic heart disease due to atherosclerotic coronary artery disease”.

The cause was listed as natural in court documents.

The award-winning journalist was the entertainment anchor for the KTLA Morning News, a show he joined in 1991.

He died on May 10 at home.

He was last on air on May 9 but there were no signs he was unwell, according to co-workers.

The following day he called in sick and went to hospital with a stomach pain. A short time later he was pronounced dead by medical staff.

Rubin won several News Emmys and Golden Mike Awards and was named Best Entertainment Reporter by the Los Angeles Press Club.

On the day of his death, KTLA 5 said it was “profoundly saddened to report the death of Sam Rubin”.

“Sam was a giant in the local news industry and the entertainment world, and a fixture of Los Angeles morning television for decades,” it said.

“His laugh, charm and caring personality touched all who knew him. Sam was a loving husband and father: the roles he cherished the most. Our thoughts are with Sam’s family during this difficult time.”

Rubin lived in LA with his wife Leslie and had four children.
