CARY, N.C. – The California women’s tennis doubles pair of Jessica Alsola and Mao Mushika won its main draw opening match on Wednesday at the ITA All-American Championships, while Alsola, in main draw singles, lost her opener at Cary Tennis Park.
The 16th-ranked Golden Bear tandem defeated Ohio State’s third-seeded and fourth-ranked Luciana Perry and Sydni Ratliff 6-4, 6-4 to advance to the round of 16 on Thursday, when they’ll face Georgia’s Dasha Vidmanova and Aysegul Mert at a time to be announced.
Alsola, ranked 30th in singles, fell to Pennsylvania’s 70th-ranked Sabine Rutlauka 4-6, 6-1, 6-4 in the round of 64. The Cal senior moves onto the consolation bracket and plays Ohio State’s Perry in the first round on Thursday at 7 a.m. PT.
