Reigning Super Bowl champion Patrick Mahomes is preparing to begin the 2024 NFL season and defend his title, but sill managed to find time to respond to comments from a flag football quarterback that’s raised more than a few eyebrows.
The Kansas City Chiefs quarterback had a quick retort to a TMZ interview with flag football player Darrell Doucette, who was discussing flag football being included as an event in the 2028 Olympics.
He made the case that he would better lead Team USA than Mahomes.
“At the end of the day, I feel like I’m better than Patrick Mahomes because of my IQ of the game,” Doucette said.
Mahomes, who has three Super Bowl rings and was named MVP in all three of those championship outings, saw the clip on X and reposted it with a GIF of rapper 50 Cent appearing befuddled.
Doucette, wearing a t-shirt that read “G.O.A.T.,” insisted that “when it comes to flag football, I feel like I know more than him.”
Doucette is a professional flag football player and already plays quarterback for the U.S. national team. He’s the reigning MVP of the International Federation of American Football flag football championship, according to the team website.
Both the women and men’s teams are undefeated at the IFAF championships.
In an interview with the Guardian last week, Doucette said it was “disrespectful” to assume that NFL players would automatically join the roster of the 2028 Los Angeles Games flag football team.
“Give the guys who helped this game get to where it’s at their respect,” he said.
