PATRICK Mahomes had a message for a legendary NFL star after accepting yet another NFL award.
The Kansas City Chiefs star quarterback, 28, received an award after his third Super Bowl-winning campaign of his career.
Mahomes appeared at the 54th Annual NFL Awards ceremony, also known as the 101 Awards, at the Loews Kansas City Convention Center Hotel.
The three-time Super Bowl MVP was given the Derrick Thomas Award, which is for Team MVP.
Mahomes took part in a news conference at the special occasion.
And he delivered a hilarious quote about the family of Pittsburgh Steelers star pass rusher T.J. Watt, who was seated on the opposite side of the Chiefs icon.
“I try to stay as far away from that family as possible,” Mahomes joked during his acceptance speech.
To be nominated by your teammates, that’s the true reward. I never take it for granted to be able to stand on a stage like this or be in the locker room that I’m in.

Mahomes was referring to the powerful T.J. and his also huge brothers, J.J. Watt and Derek Watt.
J.J. had 114.5 sacks during his legendary career before retiring in 2022.
His younger brother T.J. is on 96.5 sacks and still at the peak of his powers aged 29.
T.J. has six Pro Bowls and won one NFL Defensive Player of the Year Awards on his resume while J.J. made the Pro Bowl five times and won three NFL Defensive Player of the Year Awards.
J.J. and Derek retired after the 2022 season.
During his acceptance speech, T.J. brought up that J,J. won the 101 Awards four times, one more than his three.
“I could see my brother won it four times. I thought it was three, so I’m a little frustrated about that,” Watt joked.
“But it gives me more motivation. And anytime at these award shows, I leave more motivated when I came, and that’s just because I’m surrounded with greatness.”
Mahomes won his third Super Bowl MVP last month after the Chiefs’ 25-22 victory over the San Francisco 49ers in the big game last month.
He wasn’t the only Chiefs player to be given an award on Friday.
Fellow teammate and wide receiver Rashee Rice won the Mac Lee Hill Award, which is for the rookie of the year.
Rice recorded 79 passes for 938 yards and seven touchdowns in his first season in the NFL.
Mahomes had plenty of appreciation for receiving the award.
PATRICK Mahomes married his high school sweetheart Brittany in an intimate Hawaii ceremony in 2022.
The NFL quarterback met his future wife at Whitehouse High School ten years before they eventually tied the knot.
The couple kept their romance alive through college when Patrick played football for Texas Tech and Brittany was a soccer star at the University of Texas.
Brittany briefly played soccer in Iceland in 2017 after college while Patrick was drafted by the Chiefs.
The power couple now have two kids – Sterling Skye born in February 2021 and Bronze born in November 2022.
“To be nominated by your teammates, that’s the true reward,” he said.
“We have so many great players on our team and we’re part of a great run here.
“So I never take it for granted to be able to stand on a stage like this or be in the locker room that I’m in.”
