Apple TV+ has not aired an episode of Severance since April 2022. That is over two years, and SZA is impatient. The good news is, a lot of viewers have discovered the series in the intervening two years. The bad news is, there was a lot of behind-the-scenes drama because showrunners Dan Erickson and Mark Friedman reportedly hated each other.
Finally, there is a release date. Unfortunately, it’s still a ways off. The second season will return on January 17, 2025, which is over two and a half years between seasons. Here’s a release date teaser.
Do folks remember FX’s Old Man (that headline! Still so proud!) starring Jeff Bridges and John Lithgow? It was a surprisingly excellent opening season where basically two old spies faced off against each other. Bridges and Lithgow are spry for their ages (74 and 78, respectively). Severance ended in April 2022, and two months later, The Old Man premiered, so it’s been a long wait for the second season of this show, as well. At least we won’t have to wait until 2025 to catch the second season, as it is set to premiere on September 17th of this year. If you haven’t seen it, I really do recommend it. You can catch it on Hulu.
Finally, we learned from Tom Brady’s roast that Aaron Hernandez jokes were definitely not off-limits. Ryan Murphy doesn’t think so, either, as FX has also set the premiere for American Sports Story: Aaron Hernandez. It premieres on September 2nd. Hernandez — the New England Patriots tight end who was convicted of murder and subsequently took his own life in prison — will be played by Josh Rivera. Norbert Leo Butz will play Bill Belichick.
