From non-league sides like Worcester City to netball teams like Seven Stars, the local people of Worcester have some great sporting organisations to get behind. Alongside those aforementioned sides are some American football teams to watch, with teams like the Worcester Royals University American Football Team and the Worcestershire Black Knights highlighting the growth of the sport in the UK.
While American football will probably always lag behind the Premier League action people passionately follow, there is clearly still an appetite for it. Some people in and around the area follow the aforementioned football teams from the area. They also watch the NFL and assess any NFL odds before having a flutter, and they attend the various encounters that take place here in the UK, such as at Wembley Stadium.
The growth of the sport in this part of the world has been almost impossible to ignore. For instance, the NFL’s London fixtures have been an undoubted success, with sellout crowds and plenty of media coverage suggesting that it’s only going to get bigger and better. In case you need further convincing, though, then below are some key reasons why Worcester’s local population should get behind American football.
Another piece of American culture to endorse
Whether we like to admit it or not, American culture is creeping further and further into our society here in the UK. This has been evidenced by the growing amount of people who are now fully behind one of America’s most popular pastimes. Given the fact that the sport is so ingrained into American culture, it’s no surprise to see British people also supporting it these days, particularly as awareness around it begins to grow, and people look to follow a team in major events like the Super Bowl.
Entertaining action to watch
There’s a reason why people from Worcester and around the UK are discovering the benefits of watching American football, and it isn’t purely because they want to embrace yet another part of American culture. Sure, it plays a part, but the NFL is also exciting to watch. Nearly every NFL London game has been a sellout for this exact reason, with fans flocking to stadiums to watch the in-game action that we’re beginning to understand on this side of the pond. After all, the NFL began experimenting in this country with a single game in 2007. Since then, we’re now seeing four games per season as there is clearly a demand for it. Fans are benefitting as a result, with people now being able to experience live NFL action in England without jumping on a plane to the States.
Stunning food to try
If you’re struggling to understand the appeal of American football, then you might still want to attend a major NFL event in the country given the abundance of delicious American-themed grub there is to try. The same type of food that is on offer during the pre-game tailgating events in America is also being served up in some of England’s finest stadiums, with fans being able to tuck into some of America’s most delicious dishes. So, if a family member is more partial to the sport of American football than you are, then at least you can demolish some stunning grub while you’re in attendance.
NFL hits hard
Another notable reason why people in the UK are warming to American football is undoubtedly due to the hard hits that are on show during a typical encounter. For fans who are disillusioned with the increasingly soft nature of modern-day soccer, the physical nature of the sport is refreshing to witness.
